Karmand Community Centre
Established in 1982, the Karmand Community Centre was created in response to rising unemployment in Bradford, resulting from the decline of foundries, textiles, and engineering industries. Initially funded by a grant from the Local Authority, literacy classes, vocational and skills courses, and advice services were offered to the unemployed, youths, and women.
Over the years, the Centre’s offerings have expanded to meet the evolving needs of the local community, which includes the wards of Bradford Moor, Bowling, and Undercliffe. Notably, a multi-purpose Sports/Community Hall was completed in 1992 to support indoor leisure activities and promote culture and tradition. Subsequently, an extension to include an Elderly Day Care Unit was added in 1995, providing essential services to the elderly. In 1997, further expansion was undertaken with funding from the National Lottery Charities Board to create additional training and education rooms.
Currently, the Centre continues to address educational, vocational training, and social needs, serving the community irrespective of colour, race, or creed.
Future Focus Early Engagement team (ARMS)
The Future Focus Early Engagement team is a specialised service provided by the Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCT). It supports young people and adults aged 14-35 in the Bradford and Airedale area who may be experiencing mental health challenges. Formerly known as the At Risk Mental State (ARMS) service, Future Focus assists individuals facing various mental health issues and seeking therapy.
Services are tailored to individuals experiencing problems such as low mood, social withdrawal, sudden changes in perception, feelings of suspicion or paranoia, unusual beliefs, and auditory or visual hallucinations.
